What's In Your Toolbox?
The game of basketball is one where you can see a tremendous amount of skill improvement over time.
You may see a Big Man who never attempted a three-pointer in his career start knocking down shots from downtown. You may see a Wing who sits on the bench one year get considerably more playing time after becoming a lock down defender. Or you may see a pass first Point Guard start scoring buckets in the paint using a floater he never had in college.
Each of these players added something to their toolbox. They found a deficiency in their game, set a goal, and added a new skill. In doing so, they made themselves more valuable to the team and a better all around player.
We can do the same thing. When I did home sales I did a majority of my communication through email. In an effort to be more effective in my writing, I took an online course on the skill of copywriting. Learning copywriting helped me be a better communicator and helped me build better relationships with prospective customers.
Right now, I would like to add the following skills to my tool box:
Negotiating
Interviewing
Coaching
Project Management
Pull ups
Martial Arts
Think about what skills you have in your toolbox. What skills could you add that would make you more valuable?
