Risk Aversion
I heard a Senator on a podcast talk about how many of his colleagues were "averse to risk". They make the safe choices that will gain them favor in the eyes of others instead of doing what is right. It is an easy way to compromise your principles and convictions.
Wikipedia defines risk aversion as "the notion that in the face of uncertainty or risk, human beings are generally averse to risk. That is, faced with two alternatives, we will prefer the one with less risk or we might be willing to pay to get the sure outcome, as opposed to getting the uncertain outcome.”
While I certainly understand why we as humans favor the option that is less risky, it seems to me, if it causes us to compromise principles and convictions, it may not be the right choice, regardless of outcome.
I would like to say that I am a person that leans into risk, but that is not the case. I need to grow in being a risk taker. Even if the risks we take end up in failure, we either come out of it with a lesson or a great story!
Where can you take more risks?
